Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
