Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear in the new Hunger Games instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Reunion for Fans
The duo are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several notable actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence is receiving acclaim for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
- Filming was completed in November of the same year.
- The eagerly awaited film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
Fans of the franchise can now eagerly await the reunion of these central characters to the cinema.
