Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
