All three deceased individuals served in the Italian military police.

The explosion could be audible as far as 3 miles distant and images from the scene revealed the property reduced to a mass of wreckage.

“This is a time for grieving,” said Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who noted that previous tries had been made to displace the brother and sister trio in the previous occasions.

Financial Context

The leader of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, stated the farmhouse was under an court order due to debts accumulated by the siblings.

Negotiators had been sent to talk with the family members who had secured themselves into the home. When the officers reached the location soon after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials think one of the siblings triggered the detonation.

“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” regional commander Commander Papagno told the media.

A gas canister had been set off, and the detonation directly hit our personnel,” he added.

Molotov cocktails were also located at the property, the Interior Minister stated.

Those injured by the incident included an additional 11 personnel of the Carabinieri as well as three members of the state police and a emergency responder.

According to the local prosecutor, the farmhouse was in a dilapidated shape and had no electricity.

He was convinced the explosion had taken place on a floor above the access point and stated to the press it was a “premeditated and voluntary homicide”. Moments before the incident, he revealed personnel had “noticed a hissing sound, likely the gas cylinders being activated”.

“All of us understood the scenario was critical,” local residents stated to Italian media, mentioning that the three had previously threatened to “detonate the property” rather than leave the house.

“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”
